Day-to-day activities will include…
Lead and manage the design process from concept to production, understanding and ensuring all outputs from the design team fit the client design requirements, are quality checked, and completed within the required timeframe.
Responsible for maintaining all client-facing communications, presentations & technical submissions are correct. Identifying errors, instructing the team on changes & amendments, and signing off anything that leaves the design hub.
Produce High-level technical documents using Sketch Up and AutoCAD to produce carcass drawings, piece/component drawings, sections, floor plans, and electrical plans, researching new technologies to improve their techniques.
Interpret and understand structural calculation documents, working closely with structural engineers to ensure every structure is fit for purpose achieving structural sign-off with the client
Strong understanding of construction methods and materials, to expertly advise Project Managers on those best suited to a project.
Responsible for the continual development of the company’s steel structures driving costs and time efficiencies down whilst ensuring the highest standards of quality are maintained.
Keep up to date with relevant UK building regulations, codes, and legislation, ensuring that all designs meet regulatory and legislative requirements
Form part of the leadership team, contributing strategic direction from a design perspective and overall progression of the business.
Responsible for the Management and development of the design team, leading weekly design meetings, and setting annual team objectives
Maintain regular communication with the wider design team, providing project updates in weekly team meetings and at the management level.

Essentials
Proven work experience as a Senior Designer, Design Manager or a similar role
Qualifications in Architectural Engineering / Structural Engineering or similar.
Knowledge of construction materials and practices and an understanding of UK building regulations
Strong understanding of structural steel and steel fabrication
Highly Proficient in design software i.e AutoCAD and SketchUp
Confident in demonstrating technical expertise, knowledge, and passion for the design and build process
Ability to present clearly and articulately to the wider team, clients, and the leadership team
Nice to Have
Line Management Experience
Experience of dealing with suppliers
Experience in procurement management
Experience in modular construction, pre-fabrication or/and MMC
Experience of working for a small business within a dynamic fast paced environment
Knowledge & experience on managing the fabrication process.
Understanding drawing references & symbols, attention to detail, the ordering process from negotiation with suppliers to tracking deliveries.
